Disorders of Speech

Dysphasia: Difficulty with speech.

Dysarthria: Inability to articulate clearly.

Dysphonia: Difficulty in phonation.

Dysphasia

There is a disorder of word selection and understanding.

Broca's is associated with paralysis of right face and arm. Wernicke's is assocaited with right superior quadrantanopia.

Dysarthria

Causes:
  1. Cerebellar
  2. Bulbar
  3. Pseudobulbar
Test by saying "British Constitution" or "baby hippopotamus".

Dysphonia

Caused by cranial nerve palsies (VII, IX, X, XII).
