Disorders of Speech
Dysphasia: Difficulty with speech.
Dysarthria: Inability to articulate clearly.
Dysphonia: Difficulty in phonation.
There is a disorder of word selection and understanding.
- Impaired comprehension
- Impaired repetition: Wernicke's aphasia
- Intact repetition: Isolation aphasia
- Comprehension intact
- Impaired repetition: Conduction aphasia
- Intact repetition: Nominal aphasia
Broca's is associated with paralysis of right face and arm.
Wernicke's is assocaited with right superior quadrantanopia.
Test by saying "British Constitution" or "baby hippopotamus".
Caused by cranial nerve palsies (VII, IX, X, XII).
