Colleges Graces of Cambridge

These graces are still said daily at the evening meal, at most of the Cambridge colleges.

The short grace

Benedictus benedicat Be blessed by him who is blessed.

Emmanuel College, Cambridge

Oculi omnium in te sperant Domine
et tu das escam illorum in tempore opportuno.
Aperis tu manum tuam
et imples omne animal benedictione.
The eyes of all look to you, O Lord,
and you give them their food in due time.
You open your hand
and fill every living thing with your blessing.
Benedic Domine, nos et dona tua,
qui de tua largitate sumus sumpturi,
per Christum Dominum nostrum. Amen.
Bless Lord, us, and these thy gifts,
which of thy goodness we are about to enjoy,
through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Trinity Hall, Cambridge

Quicquid appositum est aut apponetur, Christus benedicere dignetur. In nomine Patris et Filii et Spiritus Sancti. Amen Lord God, This food which is before us and that which is to come, may Christ deign to bless. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
